52°North's Sensor Web community focuses on the development of a broad range of services and encoding implementations related to Sensor Web Enablement (SWE).

The community is intensively involved in the Open Geospatial Consortium's standardization process, which will ensure a sustainable development. OGC's Sensor Web Enablement initiative aims at standardizing the entire sensor web process: description of sensors and the setup of sensor and measurement registries, discovery and sensor tasking mechanisms, and access of data observed by sensors. 52°North accelerates the entire process of setting up interoperable sensor webs by bundling developer capacities. Currently, we are developing one encoding, four services and a multi functional client to access all services relevant for SWE. Encodings

• Observation & Measurement - models and schema for encoding sensor observations

• Sensor Observation Service - accesses sensor information (SensorML) and sensor observations (O&M)
• Sensor Planning Service - tasks sensors or sensor systems
• Web Notification Service - asynchronous notification of sensor events (tasks, observation of phenomena)
• Sensor Alert Service - handles close to real time alerting using a pub/sub paradigm

• OX-Framework (working title 'OWS Access Framework' [aka OXF]) - manages and invokes SWE services and renders SWE data
• AR-WeatherCam-Framework - steer a webcam, fetch snapshot, overlay webcam image with rain radar data and additional sensor data

The Sensor Web community is highly involved in the Sensor Web Alliance, a virtual sensor web research collaboration platform. Sensor Web Alliance members address distinct parts of Sensor Web development and research, on which a solid base for the Sensor Web could be built.
